The first known extreme balancing feat in Serbia, caught on camera!

Ever tried extreme one-legged balancing? Nope, nor me, silly idea! I mean, it’s not even that extreme, right?

Well, last weekend I padlocked up my bike and set off with Mrs. D. went for a long Easter weekend down in western Serbia, Gornje Koslje near the Bosnian border, where the main mode of transport would be “Shank’s Pony” and the main fuel would be colossal amounts of food eaten in the Arsenovic family farmhouse where we stayed.

You can check out the pics in the gallery here, and in particular a sample of the food - this was BREAKFAST! (You should see dinner!) The meat in the foreground was one of the unfortunate pigs dispatched in the previous picture. You would think all this effort was just because of Easter, but I assure you, we were getting fed like this mornin, noon and night. But you need it too, you spend a LOT more energy walking up and down those hills than you do sitting on your backside in town.

It was a great time, fantastic walking, fresh air, getting lost (all part of my plan to persuade Mrs. D. that we really need to invest in a GPS device), amazing scenery.

But I also knew it was high time to try and see what all this extreme one-legged balancing is all about. And I can now reveal the first known incidence of this act being performed in Serbia, caught on camera, at the top of the mountain of Bobija, around 1200m!

Well, after my pretty feeble attempt, all I can say is that balancing on the edge of a cliff on one leg, a gust of wind or a wobble away from near-certain death is no laughing matter! So respect to those one-legged extreme balancers out there, such as the Active Brits crew - this is certainly not as silly as it seems, as Mrs. D. would testify!

And as for the holiday, Serbia once again proves its fantastic potential for hiking, village tourism, and of course… biking - spotted a few promising-looking forest trails out there and can’t wait to get on mine again soon. Though I don’t think I will be doing any one-wheeled balancing…

Awesome photos! Thanks again. You’re seeing a variety of remote areas that the average foreigner visiting their families would never see. I’m feeling a tinge of envy about the sights, but especially about all that yummy Serbian food you get to enjoy.
